The Eagles Football team finished the regular season at home Friday with a 25-8 win over the Oak Park 2 Raiders.

After an emotional presentation to the Paquin family in memory of former Eagles footballer Pierre Paquin, and a presentation by retiring players to their parents, the Eagles got to work on the field against the Raiders.

Derrick Tattrie, Mitchell Boudreau and Michael Lampshire all brought home touchdowns for the Eagles.

Adam Swientek made one conversion while Nick Nault added the two point conversion.

The Defensive teams forced two safeties.

“We were able to build an early lead, which allowed us to put in some younger players. The young guys rose to the challenge, with Russ Balla getting two sacks in the game” said coach Zilkalkns. “Our special teams also performed well in recovering fumbles and blocking kicks.”

Moving into the playoffs, Zilkalns says that “there’s always room for improvement, especially on offense. There are no easy ones from here on in.”

The Eagles travel to Winnipeg next Friday to begin their playoff run against Murdoch McKay. Game time is 3:00.

Oct. 26 The football team put forth a team effort to defeat the Oak Park Raiders 25 – 8 for their 5th win in a row.  The team finishes with a 5 and 2 record and a quarterfinal match up this Friday against the Murdoch McKay Clansmen in Winnipeg.
Oct. 26, 27 Last chance to audition for the Music Man, the musical that is going to rock River City… oops, I mean Dryden High.  Come out today @ lunch.
Oct. 26 Students with Safe Grad tickets are reminded to return their tickets and money in at the main office before Friday, October 30th.
Oct. 26 Volunteers are needed at Princess Court to be friendly greeters.  If you are interested, please come to the main office for more information.
Oct. 26, 27 Please come out to the School’s Antiviolence Meeting on Tues. Oct. 27 at 3:30 in the library and help us plan a Karaoke night and our Antiviolence Vigil.  Hope to see you there.
Oct. 23 – 27 We would like to congratulate all of the students who achieved an average of 80% or better during the 2008 – 2009 school year.  The honour roll list is posted in the cabinet in student square.  We will be celebrating the achievements of honour roll students next Wednesday October 28th at 8:30 a.m. at the Dryden Regional Training and Cultural Centre.  Letters have been mailed home and RSVP’s to the event need to be confirmed on Monday October 26th.  Congratulations again – hope to see you at the breakfast.
Oct. 9 – Nov. Grace Haven is looking for student volunteers to help with the Festival of Trees event this year at the Centre on November 16 & 17 for set up and Nov. 18 – 21 for event days.  If you are available for this event, please come to the main office to sign up.

Krista Bannan is tops in Business Plan Competition

On Friday, representatives from the Northwest Business Centre were on hand to present Krista Bannan with an iPod Touch, her prize for taking first place in the 2009 Business Plan Competition.

Krista’s was one of about 30 entries from Northwestern Ontario that were evaluated by volunteer judges from the business community. The plans were evaluated on the basis of viability, creativity and needs to be fully complete.

Krista developed her plan in Mr. Beatty’s Entrepreneurship class. Her plan had her taking her sewing experience and providing after school lessons for kids.

According to Mike Greaves, the competition aims to “give students an idea about business planning, and encourage them to consider business planning or entrepreneurship as a career.”

Krista will now take her entry to Thunder Bay, where she will compete against other Northern Ontario regional winners for more prizes and the chance to compete provincially.

The competition runs on a yearly basis, with entries for this year’s contest due in June.
