The Senior Girls Volleyball team will go into the Christmas break on a high by defeating the Beaver Brae Broncos in three sets; 25-12, 25-6, & 25-13.  According to Coach Desautels, “the girls served very well in the match, which proved to be the difference. The team is looking forward to changing their team focus to defense while maintaining a defense first attitude.”

The Junior Girls Volleyball team won their match in four sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-27, 25-15).

The Senior Boys Basketball team lost to the Broncos 51-27.  “We have a good start and were down 20-17 at half time” said Coach Lalonde. “Somewhere early in the third quarter we lost our focus of playing a team game and had too many individual efforts.  Once again, too many turnovers on our part leads to too many easy baskets for them.”  Kevin Gardam lead the team in points with 8.

The Junior Boys Basketball team fell 39-33 against the Broncos in a close match. Coach Darling said that “we were tight with them for most of the game, but Beaver Brae pulled ahead in the last four minutes and we weren’t able to recover.”

The Eagles Girls defeated the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints 4-1 Tuesday night in Dryden.

Kyley Engstrom knocked in two goals while Lauren Shoguchi and Morgan Church added a goal each.

Assists were by Alexis Reid (2), Lauren Shoguchi (2), Kristen Bartlett and Molly Dorfman.

Great game, girls!

The girls travel to Kenora on Thursday to take on the Beaver Brae Broncos.

Olympic Torch Community Celebration

On January 4, 2010, the eyes of the world will turn to Dryden as the Olympic Flame arrives in our community as part of the Vancouver Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC and supported by the Government of Canada.

The torch relay will arrive in early afternoon as part of a convoy of vehicles, as it travels on its 45,000-kilometre-long journey across Canada – the longest domestic torch relay in Olympic history.

To celebrate the arrival of the flame, the City of Dryden is planning a Community Celebration at Van Horne Landing (at the south end of Van Horne Avenue), near the Ice Road which crosses Wabigoon Lake. 

The Community Celebration will take place from 2 PM until 4 PM on Monday, January 4th and will feature a variety of great entertainment by local performers.  Our outdoor celebration will allow people from throughout the region to enjoy the wonder of winter. Step through time, enjoy the snow and ice, and cheer on the Olympic Flame.  If you do get a little chilly, enjoy warm refreshments and a warm-up tent.
