After some last minute changes due to severely cold weather, the Dryden Olympic Torch celebration was held in the DHS Gymnasium today.

The torch relay started at 2:30 at the top of the underpass, with various community members handing off the torch until it got to Michelle Arseneault, the final torch bearer. Michelle ran the torch down Casimir Ave and into a packed DHS gymnasium, where she lit the Olympic Cauldron.

The DHS gymnasium was jammed with spectators throughout the event, which featured performances by local musicians, singers and dancers.

A big congratulations goes out to all members of the Dryden Olympic Torch Planning committee. Thanks to all of the members of the Olypic Torch Relay team for bringing the torch to Dryden.

Congratulations Michelle, and Go Canada!

Olympic Torch Relay Today!

The Olympic Torch will pass through Dryden today, and DHS students will watch it pass by.

After a slightly shortened period three class, students will walk to the corner of Van Horne and Albert Street to watch the torch pass between 2:00 and 2:20 pm. Students will return to their period 4 classes after the torch passes.

If individual teachers and classes decide they are wanting to participate in the celebration as a whole class down at the celebration site at the south end of Van Horne, they may do so. Students will be responsible for catching their bus home or arranging their own transportation if the choose to do this.
