Boys Hockey Recap

It was a busy week for the DHS Boys Eagles hockey team this week as they faced 3 different opponents on the road and came away with 3 victories.

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday January 10th, the Eagles traveled to Ear Falls to battle the Red Lake Rams in their final matchup versus each other in regular season play. The Eagles struck early and often and when the dust cleared, they came away with a 7-1 victory. Alex Calvert was the story for the Eagles as he recorded 2-goals and 3-assists. Tyler Kirouac also added two goals, while Kale Kuzemchuk, Richie Callewaert and Kyson Jensson added singles. Brendan Szabo played well in net for the victory.

The Eagles next defeated the Thomas Aquinas Saints by a 4-2 margin on Thursday January 12th in Kenora. Tied after the first two periods by a 2-2 margin, the Eagles played well in the third, led by Kyson Jensson, who scored two goals to secure the win in the end. Other goal scorers for Dryden included Richie Callewaert and Alex Calvert while Adam Notte earned the win by stopping 28 shots.

On Sunday January 15th, the Boys DHS Eagles Hockey team capped of a perfect week of hockey with a 4-3 victory over the Beaver Brae Broncos in Kenora. Josh Brunton scored twice while Drew Walske and Kirk Markowski added singles. The Broncos scored late in the game and pressured the Eagles to try to send the game into overtime. But the Eagles played a very disciplined third period and goaltender Justin Oltsher stopped 38 shots to preserve the win.

The Eagles will enjoy a well deserved rest for the next two weeks due to the Exam Break, but will be back on the ice on Friday January 27th as they host the Beaver Brae Broncos once again.
