54th DHS Conservation Camp

The 54th annual Conservation Camp is under way at Dryden High School. The camp started on Tuesday, June 1 with activities in Orienteering, Water Sampling, Site Mapping, Benthic Invertebrate identification, Tree Identification, Shrub and Forest plant identification.

Camp continues Wednesday with a visit to an active logging site and training from Dryden’s forest firefighters. Camp will conclude on Thursday with a culminating task at Aaron Park.

This year, Conservation Camp includes 24 DHS students and 12 Queen Elizabeth students, all from grade 10.

Conservation Camp is running for its 54th year. DHS thanks all of its industry partners for their support of this valuable educational experience.

Morning Announcements – June 2, 2010

June 2 This is a reminder to all grade 11 students that there will be a Safe grad meeting Monday, June 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the DHS library.
June 2 The Lake of the Woods Chapter of the Professional Engineers of Ontario is pleased to announce that they are awarding two bursaries of $500.00 each to assist two graduates that are entering an accredited engineering degree program.  Applications can be found in the guidance office.  The due date is Friday, June 4th.
June 2 Today Coop Share Fair will be held in the library.  Teachers and students are encouraged to come and see the diverse range of job placements enjoyed this Semester by the Coop students.
June Light the Ball Diamonds Committee is looking for volunteers for the following dates:  June 19, 24, 26 & 27, July 1 & 7.  For more information stop by the guidance office.
June 2 – 4 There will be fresh bannock and Indian Tacos for sale Thursday, during cultural celebrations and the pow wow. 
June 1 – 4 Okay, Music Man Folk, it is time to burn the scripts and music.  Talk to Mr. Mitchell and Mr. G for info.  By the way, it is on Thursday & if you still owe Mr. G money for a shirt, bring it to him!
June 2 Volunteers are needed to carry the Centennial Quilts in a parade on Saturday, July 30th.  If you are interested please sign up in the main office.
June 2 Dryden Fire Service Hall 2 is looking for volunteers for the highway clean up in June.  Contact Jim Osborne @ 937-5058.
June 2 Athletic Awards Banquet is Thurs. June 10th.  Tickets are on sale & can be bought from the Phys. Ed. office  for $10.00.  All athletes & their parents are welcome.  See the posters around the school for the theme & more information
June 2 If you are a student in need of volunteer hours, organizers of Dryden’s first ever Centennial Run on Aug. 8th, are hoping to get some volunteers to help out at this event.  Help would be needed at hydration stations approximately every 2 km along the race route, help with set up and clean up and other race related jobs would also be available.  For more information call 223 – 4550.
June 2 Vermilion Bay Seniors Club is looking for student volunteers to help with an event on June 26th.  They would need help with setting up of tables and chairs, serving meals and then clean up after the event.  For more information call 755-1512.
