Extra Assignment - I would like you to read the RBC article from the Financial Times. IN YOUR OWN WORDS, answer the following questions:
1. Summarize the article.
2. There are many reasons why are more and more people wanting to start a business. Discuss the ones listed in the article and add a few more others that are not.
3. They talk about barriers to starting a business that have prevented people from doing so in the past. What do you think that these are? List and explain them.
4. The article bullet points four items in the article that cause business owners grief (keeps them up at night). List them, and in your own words, tell me what you think this means.
Once this is done, please work on your business plan or your marketing plan.

Wednesday December 20 - Thursday December 23, 2016 - We will work on our business plans/marketing plans. PLEASE SUBMIT EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE DONE SO FAR BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR THE CHRISTMAS BREAK.

Tuesday December 19, 2016 - Today, will be a day-in-lieu for your fine efforts in the store. Having said that, if you missed any shifts, or are falling behind, or, you have missed a lot of days, I would recommend that you come. A great opportunity to get caught up.

Monday December 18, 2016 - We will work on our business plans or marketing plans... depending on the class that you are in.

Friday December 16, 2016 - We will use today as a store day.. .Here are some things I would like to accomplish: tidying up clothing, cleaning, some advertisements for Christmas gift shopping, school supplies in the new year, and I would like to teach a number of you to cash out.

Thursday December 8, 2016 - Thursday December 15, 2016 - We will be continuing with our business plans or our marketing plans. For the Entrepreneur 11 Class Business plan, please download this MS Word Document. For Marketing 11 students, (Sam primarily), please click on this link for the marketing templates/worksheets. Do your best with this... there are some terms we haven't discussed yet... I will fill you in when I return.

Wednesday December 7, 2016 - We will be continuing with our business plans or our marketing plans.

Tuesday December 6, 2016 - We will be getting the store decorated and doing a few other tasks today.

Monday December 5, 2016 - Today, we will be joined by Mike Svienson, a local entrepreneur. Mike owns a janitorial business, has interest in the Dryden GM Ice Dogs, and has a majority interest in the local Holiday Inn Express.

Thursday December 1, 2016 - We will take about half an hour to finish up the Business Plan research project. ... Again, you can find business plans on your own and/or use a few of the samples from the RBC website.
I would like to talk about what tomorrow will look like.
I would like to continue with the groundwork for our business plan. We will look at Template1-Before we Begin.

Wednesday November 25, 2016 - We will be working on our business plans/marketing plans. We will start off by looking at and completing a worksheet from the Life Cycle of a Business. You can look at your text page 147 for this. Then, we will look at some existing business plans and work on the Business Plan research project. ... You could find your own, or look at a few samples from the RBC website.

Tuesday November 25, 2016 - Whelp.. today looks like a snowday. If you are curled up in front of your fireplace amidst all this deep deep snow, please be thinking about what you want to do for your business or marketing plan. For those of us that showed up, we worked on the Entrepreneurial Newscrawl and/or the Interview of a local entrepreneur.

Friday November 25, 2016 - We will look at a number of videos including Margot Woodworth's Dragon's Den episode, a short video from the Owner of Bearheart Boutique in Kenora and a TED Talks video from Cameron Herald.

Thursday November 24, 2016 - We will do a few brainteasers and then work on the Following Market Trends assignment.

Wednesday November 23, 2016 - Today is a snowday! Woo hoo.

Tuesday November 22, 2016 - We will have a School Store Day.

Monday November 21, 2016 - We will do a few brainteasers. Then we will review market-pulled and product-driven entrepreneurship. We will then work on the Market-pulled entrepreneur Challenge. Not only will I mark this, but we will have the class vote for the best problem/opportunity, solving it with a business enterprise, and presenting the whole thing for AMAZING cash and prizes. Good luck and may the best group win!

Friday November 18, 2016 - We will use the class for a store day to continue with the jobs rom the other day!

Thursday November 17, 2016 - For the first part of the class, we will continue with our look at market-pulled/product driven entrepreneurship. I would like you to work on your "Looking for Opportunities worksheet" that I gave you yesterday. Please do a great job on this... especially the first side... Side 2 may be difficult, but do your best.
Then, I would like you to continue with the store task that you were doing yesterday. Please participate and use your time well. Please make a journal entry at the end of the day for both yesterday and today.

Wednesday November 16, 2016 - We will use this store day to get ready for jacket sales, and Christmas Parent shopping night.

Tuesday November 15, 2016 - Today, we will have a day in lieu for all your fine efforts in the store. Please remember to come by and check in with me for attendance.

Monday November 14, 2016 - We will look at Chapter 6 today. We will look at what comes first in entrepreneurship... the chicken or the egg. We will do this by looking at "market-pulled entrepreneurship" and "product-driven entrepreneurship".

Friday November 11, 2016 - We will have our Chapter 1-5 test. If time remains, I would like you to read this great article on Entrepreneurship - 6 Tips for Entrepreneurs-Vancouver is Awesome.

Thursday November 10, 2016 - We we will have a fun Chapter 1-5 review game. Some serious cash and prizes on the line.

Wednesday November 9, 2016 - We will work on a Chapter 1-5 review assignment.

Tuesday November 8, 2016 - We will run a canteen for NorWOSSA.

Monday November 7, 2016 - We will take care of outstanding assignments and get marks all sorted out.

Friday November 4, 2016 - We will do a review game for our Chapter 1-5 Unit Test.

Tuesday November 1, 2016 - Thursday November 3, 2016 - We will definitely work on the Mind Map assignment. Here is the Eagle's Nest store work schedule for November.

Monday October 31, 2016 - We will take the class to clean up the store and do a few other things. Who knows, maybe we will start on the Mind Map assignment.

Thursday October 27, 2016 - We will have a day to carve pumpkins, do some touchups to the school store and pack up Candy bags.

Wednesday October 26, 2016 - We will work on the Mind Map assignment.

Tuesday October 25, 2016 - We will have a second day to work with School store activities.

Monday October 24, 2016 - We will use this day to get some things done for the store. Remember that the more you contribute, the more I pay you. It is all about initiative, creativity and work ethic.

Friday October 21, 2016 - We will finish the DeBono's Hats assignment. In honour of SMALL BUSINESS WEEK IN CANADA, we will finish off with a little Dragon's Den (Episode 14, Season 10). Please complete the Dragon's Den worksheet.

Thursday October 20, 2016 - We will look at the Problem Solving model. We will also look at DeBono's hats and start a little assignment with that.

Wednesday October 19, 2016 - We will finish up our Patent assignment. Please submit with your rubric.

Tuesday October 18, 2016 - We will finish up our Invention and Innovation assignment. We will learn about how to protect our great ideas with Patents, copyrights and trademarks. We will start the Patent assignment.

Monday October 17, 2016 - We will use the first half of the class to finish off the Invention and Innovation assignment. We will then look at trademarks, patents and copyrights.

Friday October 14, 2016 - Today, for your fine efforts in the store, we will have a day in lieu. Enjoy. Please don't be hanging about the hallways.

Thursday October 13, 2016 - We will use the entire class to work on our Invention and Innovation assignment.

Wednesday October 12, 2016 - I would like to look at Invention and Innovation and how it ties into Entrepreneurship. We will learn about it and then work on an assignment for it.

Tuesday October 11, 2016 - Today, we will start Chapter 5. We will have a short quiz on the powers of observation. We will discuss why observation is so important to entrepreneurs. We will also look at ideas and the creative edge. We will take a note on that. We will do an idea brainstorming activity. We also voted that our day-in-lieu will be this Friday and I appreciate that.

Friday October 7, 2016 - Today, we are going to play a game and review all the concepts from the course. Bring your game and win cash and prizes!!!!

Tuesday October 4, 2016 - Thursday October 6, 2016 - We will carry on with tasks for the store.

Monday October 3, 2016 - We will have a store day today. There are a number of things that I would like to get done.

Thursday September 29, 2016 - I would like to take the day to watch an episode of Dragon's Den. Please complete the small assignment that goes with it.

Wednesday September 28, 2016 - We will start the class with a quiz #3678. We will have a look at The Nike case on page 68-69 and discuss corporate culture and storytelling in an organization. Please answer the four questions on page 69. A reminder to do your part on the Entrepreneurial newscrawl assignment and the Interviewing a local entrepreneur assignment.

Tuesday September 27, 2016 - A reminder that your Entrepreneur Made or Born assignment is due at the BEGINNING of class. We will carry on from yesterday with the advertising assignment.. We will review advertising.

Monday September 26, 2016 - We will take a short look at Advertising and Promotion by working through a worksheet. Please be very descriptive as you work through this.

Friday September 24, 2016 - We will have one last day to work on the assignment from the last few days. Please take time to hand in the assignment using the order and the format I have given. It is due on Tuesday. We will not have any more class time to work on it however.

Wednesday September 21, 2016 - Thursday September 22, 2016 - We will start the class with an On-Time Quiz. We will then have the F.W.O.T.D. Then, we will work on the Made or Born Assignment.
A) Part A will incorporate the use of a few online quizzes that assess your potential as an entrepreneur. BUT..... before we begin, I would like to EMPHASIZE that you should take these quizzes "with a grain of salt". They do mention many characteristics important to being an entrepreneur, but don't panic if you don't feel you measure up with these! :) Check out:

Forbes Magazine-Are you an Entrepreneur? (5 mins)
Entrepreneurial Self-Test (10 mins). I will print this for you. Complete and submit with Part A.

Monday September 19, 2016 - We will look at goals and work around that today. Your Researching an Entrepreneur project is due.

Friday September 15, 2016 - We will use this day to work on any of the three outstanding projects. I wouldn't use the whole period for yesterday's project... make sure that you commit some time to the Entrepreneurial News Crawl project and the Interviewing a Local Entrepreneur assignment. On Monday, your Researching an Entrepreneur project will be due.

Thursday September 14, 2016 - We will work on the Researching an Entrepreneur assignment. Use a fairly prominent entrepreneur as we will discuss in class. Please just touch base with me who you would like to work with before you get started.

Wednesday September 13, 2016 - We will start the class with a quiz. If yo are late, you miss it. We will look at Characteristics of a Entrepreneur and do some work with that. I will give out the Researching an Entrepreneur assignment... which I will discuss in full tomorrow.

Tuesday September 12, 2016 - We will start off with a few brainteasers. We will finish up chapter 1 by looking the You're Hacked Venture Profile on page 20.

Monday September 12, 2016 - We will carry on right where we left off on Friday working on our creativity. We will have a lot of creative brainteasers in order to expand your creative side. May even be some prizes for creative thinkers. We will also go over some general roles and responsibilities for the store. We will look at:
1. Read pages 13, 15-18.
2. Answer questions 1 and 6 on page 18. Make sure you know what intrapreneurship is and why it is important.
3. We will complete and discuss a worksheet - Ways to start a business.
There is a quiz coming in your near future... as soon as tomorrow... review your notes.

Friday September 9, 2016 - We will do a bit of a debriefing from the fashion show the other day.... then a review of entrepreneurship terms and stuff as it has been a while since we have looked at it. Then, we will read the Venture Profile on Three Blondes Cook up Sweet Success. We will answer the five questions that go with it. We will look at creativity and go through a handout on it. We will especially look at Mental Locks which prevent us from being creative. We will then work on our creativity by ending with a brain teaser.

Thursday September 8, 2016 - We will likely just be using this for the assembly/fashion show.

Wednesday September 7, 2016 - We will look at some amazing things you can do that require zero talent, but will contribute to your success in many areas, including in entrepreneurship. We will start a journal for things we do on store days. Finally, we will do a dress rehearsal for the fashion show.

Tuesday September 6, 2016 - We will have a day to get the store ready and get ready for the fashion show on Thursday.

Friday September 2, 2016 - We will continue from yesterday. I do evaluate you on your contributions so get in the habit of finding meaningful things to do.

Thursday September 1, 2016 - Today we will start getting the store ready to be opened on Tuesday. There are all sorts of jobs to do, so get involved! Sarah, Jessica, and Michael are getting the schedule done for September, so get you name in for some shifts.

Wednesday August 31, 2016 - Today, we will look at what entrepreneurship is and hopefully have a great discussion about that. We will look at characteristics of entrepreneurs, etc etc.

Tuesday August 30, 2016 - Welcome to Welcome to Entrepreneurship! In this course, we are going to teach you as much as we can about starting your own business.
But today, we will look at all that extremely exciting stuff like introductions, course outlines, class rules, etc. We may then play a few ice breaker games and then talk about what the course would really be about. Most importantly, we will discuss something real important to DHS!... the school store and your role with it! We will also hand out textbooks and get started right away...
