Thursday Court Sports and Football Results

DHS Court Sports teams headed to Fort Frances yesterday for league play vs. the Muskies.

In Volleyball, the Sr. Boys won in three close sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-22).
Coach McMaster said that “There were a lot of great rallies, and the boys played very well as one unit. They were able to battle for points and demonstrate much improved defense. We are now shifting our practice focus to offense which will improve our ability to generate points.”
The Senior Boys are attending the Big Spike Tournament in Winnipeg today and tomorrow.

The Jr. Boys lost in 4 hard fought sets yesterday in Fort Frances (25-17, 23-25, 25-9, 26-24). According to Coach McMaster, “they did a lot of great things offensively and serving however need to improve on cup coverage and continue to work on communicating as a team on the court.”
The Junior Boys are hosting their home tournament this weekend here in Dryden.

On the Basketball court, the Sr. Girls won over the Muskies 21-12. Coach Lalonde said that the team had a slow start, but shut out the Muskies in the second quarter. “Great defense made the difference” according to Lalonde, adding that “we’re always looking to improve shooting, and reduce turnovers.”

The Jr. Girls had a tough loss against the Muskies. Coach Benson said that “a good team learns from a game like this.” Moving forward, Benson says that the team is going to work on improving offensive play.

In football, the Eagles were in Winnipeg to take on Kildonan East in a rare night game. The Eagles won over second place team Kildonan East 17-6.
The defensive line chalked up 6 interceptions, with 2 from Andrew Langlais.
Jake Berry returned a pick 57-yards for a touchdown.
Derrick Tattrie led the Eagles offence with a 2-yard touchdown run.
Adam Sweintek added a field goal.
The Eagles have now won 4 in a row and have landed in second place in WHSFL standings.

The Football team returns home next Friday the 23rd for their final regular season game. Come out and cheer on your Eagles!
