Friday February 26, 2021 - You will have most of the class to complete Part 1 of the Primary Research Assignment #2.

Thursday February 25, 2021 - We will review Marketing Research so far. We will complete the Marketing Research Methods Worksheet. We will then complete the Primary Research Assignment #1. In the second class, we will introduce the Primary Research Assignment #2.

Wednesday February 24, 2021 - We will have the first class to finish off our Marketing Research Collage. Then we will have a bit of time to finish up anything outstanding. Finally, we will talk a little more specifically about primary data. We will complete the Marketing Research Methods Worksheet.

Tuesday February 23, 2021 - We will start the class with a quiz and then we will continue our look at Marketing Research Collage assignment.

Monday February 22, 2021 - Well, we will continue to work on our Competitive Advantages assignment. After that, we will look at a Marketing case titled Dogfight, about AirSprint Inc, which offers fractional ownership of corporate jets. We are looking at this because it covers a lot of the topics we have just covered such as types of market structure, direct and indirect competition, etc. We will also have a worksheet that reviews the competition chapter. We will do a small review for our chapter 3 quiz tomorrow. We will start our look at Marketing Research.

Friday February 19, 2021 - Well, we will continue our look at Direct and Indirect competition. Then, we will look at competition and what that means in various situations. We will look at sustainable and non-sustainable competitive advantages. We will start the Competitive Advantages assignment.

Thursday February 18, 2021 - I would like to start the day with by looking at consumer motivation and then get into our Commercial/skit groups and develop our commercials and perform them all in one day. Then, I would like to finish up the Consumer Unit by completing Question 1 and 4 in the Chapter 2 Review on page 78.
For the second half of the class, we will look at competition in a free market.

Wednesday February 17, 2021 - Well, we didn't get a whole lot done yesterday other than review and catch up from that crazy week last week. So... fair enough... okay... back on track today right? We will start with a quiz... so make sure that you have reviewed your notes. We will then likely have a short tutorial on a program called Adobe Illustrator.. This is a great program for drawing... why do we need to be able to draw in marketing you ask? Well, print ads, logos, and sooooooo many things in marketing... For the second part of the day, I would like to look at We will review consumer motivation and then get into our Commercial/skit groups and develop our commercials and perform them all in one day. If you are lucky, we will have a second quiz in the latter part of the class.

Tuesday February 16, 2021 - Welcome back.. been a while eh? Can't say I've ever had a whole week of cancelled busses. Anyhoo... Let's do a big review of all the things that we did last week. I will be expecting various things in (on which I will let you know today) to be evaluated. We will do a big quiz/small test today on all things so far. We will review consumer motivation and then get into our Commercial/skit groups and develop our commercials and perform them all in one day.
If time permits, I would like to talk a bit about the competitive market.

Friday February 12, 2021 - Well, I'm guessing that this will cap a WHOLE week of virtual learning... We will see in the morning if I am right or not, but she's looking to be -34 degrees tonight so.... if I was a bettin man..... Anyhoo....
1. We will start today by looking at the buying decision process. It is important to understand this as a consumer (so we make wise purchases) but even more so as a marketer, so that we can do the right things at each step in order to swing revenue in our favour. Please work through this assignment for an upcoming purchase decision for a good, service, event or idea that you have to make.
2. The second thing that I would like to do today is take half an hour and listen to this Under the Influence Episode on the Power of Word-of-Mouth Advertising from April of 2019. I have attached the link for the episode. Also, as you listen, please complete the journal sheet (fill out one page... it is double sided... just use one side...) ***** Your episode specific question (question 3) is: Why is word-of-mouth advertising so powerful and tell me the extent (all you can think of) of it's benefits.
3. Finally, we will look at consumer motivation. Please open up the note... We will have a quick "discussion"... I will get you to do something with this note... Then, we will discuss the commercial/skit assignment that we will work on. Please open that up and have a look. We will make groups for this and then each group can pick a specific consumer motivation that they would like to work with.

Thursday February 11, 2021 - We will look at a number of things today that have to do with the consumer.
• First, I would like you to write down a list of 3-5 things that motivate YOU to buy consumer goods, services and events. Make a list.
• Case – pet hotel - on page 36-37. Read the case study and answer the two questions at the end of it. Email/share/send to me your answers.
• Consumer Profiles - we will go through a note on this. Then, I have a profile assignment that I would like you to work on.
o Complete demographic and psychographic nickname assignment.

Wednesday February 10, 2021 - We will have a bit of time to finish up our Consumer and Competitive Market assignment.
Then, we will have some time for the Product Life Cycle Assignment. Then, when this is done, I would like you to select ONE of the following TWO articles and complete the questions below in a MS Word document.
1. Google Self-driving Cars
2. Ugly Fruit
After selecting and reading the articles, please answer the following questions in full sentences and IN YOUR OWN WORDS.
1. What stage is this product/concept in. How do you know?
2. Go through the elements of the Marketing Mix (4 P's). Talk about your product/concept with respect to this.
3. What need and/or want does this offering SPECIFICALLY address?
4. What is the target market for this offering? Explain in detail.
Then, we will look at Marketing Strategies and complete a short assignment for that.
We will now work on learning about Marketing Strategies. Read over the note that I have posted here. Also, read in your textbooks from pages 24-29. Make sure that you understand the difference between a marketing strategy, the marketing plan and a marketing goal. Also take some time to review the concept of the VALUE EQUATION discussed o pages 26-27. Let me know if you "don't get it!". Then, please complete the assignment below called "Marketing Strategies Assignment."
Next, I will get you guys to do a little Chapter 1 (Introduction to Marketing Review). On page 32, please complete questions 1, 2, 4.
Finally, you could be working on your Marketing Creativity Journal.. no matter how you want it to look, you could be setting that up... whether it is scrapbook format, whatever... get going now... who knows, maybe you will see something creative today... you should have at least two entries by the end of this week. Might be an idea to go back and reread the assignment sheet. Let me know if you have any questions.

Tuesday February 9, 2021 - Another bus cancellation day... We were going to start the class with a quiz... we'll do that next time I see you... So, we will have a bit of time to work on our McSomething. Then, we will then look at Supply and Demand. We will look at the Tickle Me Elmo Craze that happened a few years ago. Answer the questions on the Tickle Me Elmo worksheet. Please ensure that this Word document remains on only two pages. Print and hand in.
Then, we will look at a number of different topics today to close out our Introduction to Marketing unit. We will look at how companies can organize their marketing divisions, then, we will look at consumer and competitive markets. needs and wants, and finish off with distribution strategies.
Next, we will look at the Product Life Cycle.... which is important for marketers to know... Where a product is at in the product life cycle has a lot of implications for the Product, its price, and its promotion (3 of 4 P's in the marketing mix. We will go through the note on Product Life Cycle and then work on a short assignment about the Product Life Cycle.
Okay, next in our long line of things to cover today... we will look at Needs, Wants and Demands... You will need this note/worksheet! :)
Finally, we will look at Consumer and Competitive Markets.... Read this note and open this quick assignment to work on.

Monday February 8, 2021 - Today is a busses cancelled day. We will run virtually however... First thing I would like to do is for you to find a Superbowl 2021 Commercial that you found interesting.... perhaps funny or dramatic... Send me the link and discuss the following if you can... 1. the ad agency that created the ad, 2. any celebrities involved, 3. whether you liked it or not and why? 4. Does this commercial make you want to learn more about the product or go out and buy it? Please email me the link to your commercial and a short typed up report with that discussion.
Next we will look at the Marketing Concept. We will take a note on what that is. We will discuss how vvarious businesses consider their customers in any marketing that they do. Then, we will look at how they can be better and/or different than their competitors.
Finally, we will look at the Marketing Mix... the good ole 4 P's.... We will look at the 4 P's with respect to the launch of McPizza a few decades ago... Then, we will come out with our own McSomething... you can take a silly creative approach to this or a serious approach, considering consumer trends now or what you think will be a trend in the future. Please email me with how far you got, if you need more time tomorrow.

Friday February 5, 2021 - We will start with some brainteasers to get that brain and our creative juices warmed up. We will then watch some already released Superbowl LV commercials. Then, we will work on our Marketing Activity Brochure. Finally, I'd like to end with some marketing games.

Thursday February 4, 2021 - Today we did a few brainteasers. We had some time to work on the Market Yourself asignment. Then, after the break, we came back and started the Marketing Actvity Brochure.

Wednesday February 3, 2021 - We will start with a few creative brainteasers. We will then introduce the Marketing Journal Assignment. I will give you a little bit of time to get thinking/working on this. We will then work on the Market Yourself assignment. I'd like to finish off by listening to a little bit of the Under the Influence program, by Terry O'Reilly... this is a great program that is broadcast on CBC radio and looks at interesting aspects from the world of marketing. Today's episode (S9E21) will be about nicknames.

Tuesday February 2, 2021 - We will carry on from yesterday...It will kind of be like first day all over again... We will have a few of those ice breaker games we were supposed to have yesterday.... I hope that you will try and step out of your comfort zone by participating as much as you can in this class... you will benefit the most if you do. We will look at Creative Thinking and Mental Locks and discuss how we can remove mental locks so that we can be better creative thinkers, which is a crucial characteristic of an entrepreneur. We will look at what marketing is and what we can market... Then, we will do a little marketing of others in the class and then we will work on marketing a National Holiday - Happy Groundhog Day.

Monday February 1, 2021 - Welcome to BMI3C0 or Marketing 11 as it is known. Today, we will look at an introduction to the course, class rules, lab rules, and then have some fun icebreaker games. We will look at creativity and mental locks and work with some creative brain games. We will look at what marketing is.
WELL... since it is a snowday, we will have an online class... We will just do a few little things... I will get you to complete the student profile, look over the Marketing note that we would have taken, and work on the Market Yourself assignment.
