Tuesday November 2, 2020 - We will have time to finish up our charting booklet and then work on the Lululemon Assignment.

Monday November 2, 2020 - This is our last full week together!!! :(
We will have time to finish up our Report Card Spreadsheet Assignment. Then start the charting/graphing tutorial. Then, we will work on the legendary charting booklet assignment.

Friday October 30, 2020 - Today is a PD Day! :)

Thursday October 29, 2020 - We will carry on with our spreadsheet unit. We will make the corrections on our Pizza Pit assignment and then work on the Veggie Spot assignment. This is your "last chance" to get a handle on the basics of spreadsheets before we move on to more complex stuff.... Which... is also today with double classes, so I will introduce the Report Card Spreadsheet Assignment.

Wednesday October 28, 2020 - Well, we didn't get a lot of time for the spreadsheet tutorial yesterday as the beyond fantastic presentations took up the bulk of our morning... So... we will finish the tutorial, learn about formulas and functions, MR. B's famous 5 Spreadsheet Rules, and how to create a footer in MS Excel. We will work on the Pizza Pit and Veggie Spot assignments.
ALSO!!!! I would like to talk to you about a great contest called "The Virtual Pitch it" which I think would be great for a few of you to consider.

Tuesday October 27, 2020 - We will have our presentations and then get right back into spreadsheets. We will carry on with the tutorial. and then work on a PizzaPit assignment, which will be very similar to our tutorial.

Monday October 26, 2020 - We will use the first part of the class to get ready for our presentations, which will be tomorrow. Remember to practice practice practice. Then, we will start to learn about spreadsheets. We will get started on a tutorial together.

Friday October 23, 2020 - We will work on our presentations today! Remember all the things that we talked about when developing your slides/Prezi. We will discuss presenter's notes, presentation tips, practicing, etc., etc., etc.

Thursday October 22, 2020 - We will work on the Presentation assignment. You can use whichever presentation software you like... ie: Prezi, PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc. We will look at Electronic Presentation Tips... things to consider as you develop your slide show. We will also discuss that you should have two files open... one for your presentation and one where you will dump your information/content, which will ultimately be the content that you wish to say.

Wednesday October 21, 2020 - We will spend most of the day on the Classified Ad/Cover Letter Assignment.

Tuesday October 20, 2020 - We will finish up the Crane Cover Letter. We will work on the Classified Ad/Cover Letter Assignment.

Monday October 19, 2020 - We will spend some time working on our signatures. We will then work on the Fretz letter. This contains some reference initials that we will learn about. We will then look at cover letters and work on the Crane Cover letter.

Friday October 16, 2020 - We will finish up our resumes and then get into learning about personal business letter. We will type up the Simpson letter together and then we will label the parts and the spacing on it. We will start the Laporte letter. Please print this out when you are finished.

Thursday October 15, 2020 - We will work on our resumes today. Hopefully we can finish them up! Remember to look at some of the samples I have put out, the samples online, as well as this, or other lists of ACTION WORDS to include in your resume!

Wednesday October 14, 2020 - Today I would like to start putting all of the knowledge that we learned in our Hanging Indent, Setting Tabs, and Lists and Outline units into practice. This stuff comes in really handing when creating a resume. We will learn about resumes and create one for ourselves. When we are done, we will email it to ourselves so we have it for future reference. I will be going over all the ins and outs of what a resume is, the parts of a resume, things to think about when creating a resume, etc etc. I will have a few hard copy samples, and as well, here is a link to some samples:

Tuesday October 13, 2020 - Today, we will work on catching up from all things last week - our Print ad for our event and our two signs for the Dryden Ski Club. Please remember to go back and review some of the basics of print ads. These can also be applied to signs to some degree. When finished, please email me your print ads and your signs.

Friday October 9, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. the Dryden Ski Club Sign assignment.
b. If you finish the above assignment, you can start working on your Travel Destination presentation.

Thursday October 8, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. finishing up the Logo Assignment if you are not done. Please remember to hand in the paper copy and to email me four (4) files - the .ai and the .pdf for both images... remember your subject line also.
b. Complete the print ad for your organization that you started yesterday.
c. I will introduce the Dryden Ski Club Sign assignment.

Wednesday October 7, 2020 - Today, we will:
a. finish up our Logo Assignment. I will show you how to Export your images to other file formats. Please ensure that this MS Word document that you are submitting looks good, especially using "Print Preview."
b.
Next, we will learn a thing or two about creating Print Ads! We will look at Effective Print Ad/Poster design handout as well as 5 Common Elements of a Print Ad.
c. Next, we will create a 8.5 x 11 inch print ad for the event that we created the logo with. I would like you to reread the handouts on Effective Print ads and incorporate the information in these handouts into your print ad. ALSO, of the two logos that you created for your event, insert what you think is the best one onto your poster. Remember to include all the what, where, when, how, who on your posters as well. Also any features/benefits to the consumer by attending your event. When finished, please email me the .ai and the .pdf files and hand in your rubric.

Tuesday October 6, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a.
We will give Google Meet another go, just to make sure that we have it all set up in case we go virtual. Again, this is mostly to bring ME up to speed on this.
b. I would like to show you some tools/techniques that may help you on your logo assignment or other... if nothing else, very fun to play with... we will look at the Warp Tool Flyout as well as the techniques under the Effect menu including 3D, Warp and Stylize.
c. We will continue to work on our
Logo Design Assignment (MSWord Version)/ Logo Design Assignment (PDF Version). Again, just as a reminder, the first part of the assignment is learning about the different types of logos, where the second part of the assignment is on creating your own logo for an event that you will involved in either as an organizer, a spectator or a participant... So... things like a sports tournament, a fishing tournament, an art event, a bake sale, etc. Try to finish the first portion of the assignment today. Monday October 5, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. I would like you to bring your Chromebooks so that we can get used to using Google Meet to run the class... JUST IN CASE, we have to go virtual... I would like to keep practicing this, so please bring your Chromebooks all week. This is more for ME to get the hang of... your skills on this are likely fine.
b. Finish up your
juice/other package label project. Please ensure that you have covered everything on the assignment, you have conveyed the features and benefits of the product in your graphics, grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
When finished, please email to me with an appropriate Subject: line.

We will continue to dabble with Adobe Illustrator! I hope that you are liking this program and your creative talents are coming out. a. get more practice by working on the Ninja assignment. Follow the directions "loosely" to create a number of ninjas. Then create an appropriate background for your scene.

We will do a tutorial on Lists and Outlines in MS Word. Then, we will start the legendary Lists and Outlines assignment.

Friday September 25, 2020 - Today I would like you to work on the following:
I would like you to use your skills that you have learned to draw me TWO interesting items such as:
a. a ball cap
b. a jet airliner
c. a piece of fruit such as a strawberry or an apple.
d. a tree or flowers
e. a car, truck, boat, or snowmobile.

f. a similar thing of your choice.

Thursday September 24, 2020 - Today we will start Adobe Illustrator. It is a great drawing software program. We will use it to do a lot of the graphics used in Marketing. We will start by drawing a scene... a home in fact with a yard.
NEXT, We will then have a tutorial on the Pathfinder tool as well as some little odds and ends such as fitting text to a path.

Wednesday September 23, 2020 - Today we will have a tutorial on making tables in MS Word. Then we will start the tables assignment.

Tuesday September 22, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. we will carry on with our tutorial on Setting Tabs.
b. We will start and hopefully complete the Setting Tabs assignment.
*** Please ensure that you are getting things completed and not falling behind.*** You can always stay for lunch if you need to get things done and/or marked.

Monday September 21, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. we will carry on with our Spacing Rules/Proofreading Symbols (42D and 42E) assignment.
b. We will also learn about Hanging Indents and complete the Hanging Indent assignment.
c. We will start a tutorial on Setting Tabs... which, we won't finish, so this is where we will pick up tomorrow.

Friday September 18, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. finishing up our four Photoshop assignments:
a) Multiple Me
b) Paint My Face
c) Creating Images with Transparent Backgrounds
d) Photomerge

We will shift over to Microsoft Word and look at spacing rules and proofreaders symbols - we will carry on with our Spacing Rules/Proofreading Symbols (42D and 42E) assignment. We will also learn about Hanging Indents and complete the Hanging Indent assignment.

a. the four Photoshop projects:
a) Multiple Me
b) Paint My Face
c) Creating Images with Transparent Backgrounds
d) Photomerge

Wednesday September 16, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. finishing off our NAAM restaurant. I will teach you how to create a footer the proper way. We will ensure that our accounts are set up with the printer in the classroom.
b. Next, we will have a
short tutorial on Quick Mask Mode as well as the Quick Selection tool.
c. We will work on the Hair colouring assignment- Do this with your choice of a human being or with an animal of your choice that has hair! ie: a dog, horse, cat, etc. Have fun.
d. I will introduce your next four Photoshop projects:
a) Multiple Me
b) Paint My Face
c) Creating Images with Transparent Backgrounds
d) Photomerge

Tuesday September 15, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. Finishing off our Clone Tool exercise with the Smoker Girl.
b. Next, we will start a little MS Word assignment called the NAAM restaurant assignment. I will give you a little tutorial on MS Word as I realize that some of you have used it and some have never used it... which is cool either way!

Monday September 14, 2020 - Today, we will work on:
a. We will have a few minutes to finish up our Photoshop activity from Friday whereby we were bringing portions of one image that we selected with the Magic Wand tool into another image.
b. We will learn about the Magnetic Lasso tool, the Filter Gallery and Image Adjustments. We will then work on the Nine of Me activity.
c. We will learn about the Clone tool. We will work on the Smoker Girl exercise.

Friday September 11, 2020 - We will jump right in to Adobe Photoshop. We will look at the way the program is laid out, and then learn about and work with Layers, a selection tool called the Magic Wand, resizing an image, cropping an image, flattening an image, and different file types that we use withing Photoshop. We will work through a few assignments together and then I would like you to find a few images on the Internet and bring a portion of one of them into another, similar to what we did with the wooden man into the desert scene.

Thursday September 10, 2020 - Hopefully you remembered to get your course outline signed by your parents or guardians. Today, I would like to work on:
a) We will then finish the I'm an Awesome Person Assignment. Remember to explain as best you can, make it creative, and colourful. Check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Remember to save to your Z/drive and NOT "My Documents". When you are finished, please email me the link or the attachment (depending on how you created this) to robert.beatty@k12.kpdsb.ca. Please include a subject line that includes your full name and the assignment name. ie: Sally Smith is an Awesome Person.
b)
We will learn about hierarchies and how they relate to folder/file management. We will create the folders for this in our Z:/drive.
