About

The DHS School Council as a positive action group, believes that it can directly affect and enhance the education of the students of Dryden High School. The School Council supports the Dryden High School mission statement and recognizes the effective partners of DHS.Councils offer advice to the school principal on a number of topics. In Dryden, most of the work of the council focuses on three main areas: school community communication strategies, ways of responding to parents and the community and school code of behaviour. School councils include parents, school staff, community representatives and, in some cases, students.

We welcome and encourage the participation of parents and community members in our schools, and on councils.

Purpose

The purpose of the DHS School Council is to improve student achievement, and enhance the accountability of the education system to DHS parents.

The primary way to achieve this is to provide recommendations to the Dryden High School principal and to the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board. The school council may make recommendations to the principal or to the board on any matter except personnel matters or matters the board is required to deal with at closed meetings (in-camera sessions).

Meaningful involvement in the school council not only assists the school in improving student achievement but also enhances the relationships between the school and the community.

Objectives

The objectives of the DHS School Council are:

  • to improve education for all students,
  • to support a safe, healthy school environment for all students,
  • to advise the principal and the board,
  • to be aware of provincial policies, board policies, and educational issues,
  • to network with local, regional, and provincial school councils,
  • to share information and make informed decisions, and
  • to inform parents of DHS.
