Mrs. Gardam’s leadership class ran a successful pick-up lacrosse game today. An enthusiastic group of students came out for a fun game during the lunch hour. The lunch hour schedule is filling up with various intramurals and tournaments organized by classes here at DHS. Be on the lookout for posters and listen to the announcements to get involved!

Morning Announcements – Nov. 17, 2009

Nov. 17 Last chance to bring in your second page of your report card (signed).  Draw for the iPod is tomorrow.
Nov. 17 Just a reminder to all those signed up for the volleyball 4 on 4 competition – a representative from each team must attend a quick meeting outside the girls change room at 11:30 today.
Nov. 17 Sr. Girls Volleyball try outs continue today at 5:00 p.m.  Jr. Boys Basketball try outs start at 12 noon today with a meeting in room 109.  Sr. boys Basketball try outs start today at 3:30 & Jr. Girls Volleyball try outs start tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
Nov. 16 – 18 Our next SAVE meeting is on Nov. 18th at 3:30 in the library.  Please come out and help us plan our Karaoke night on Dec. 3rd and our school Vigil on Dec. 4th.  You can earn volunteer hours for helping out.  Hope to see you there!
Nov. 16 – 18 Jr. & Sr. Girls Basketball players:  please remove your belongings & garbage from your lockers in the change room by this Wednesday @ 3:30.
Nov. 17 – 20 It is Cookie Time again.  Do you like cookies, subway cookies, but are sad when you can’t have them at home?  Then this is your time to get frozen, ready to bake cookies.  See a member of the Arts Council today, but don’t delay – this is the last week to order.  C is for Cookie, get them now.
Nov. 17 – 20 If you are interested in joining the DHS Ambassadors’ Tour of Russia in 2011, please attend one of their information meetings on Wednesday Nov. 18 or Tuesday Nov. 24th at 6:30 p.m. in the DHS Library.  Applications from DHS students will be received first come first served and will be screened on the basis of attendance, attitude, behaviour and effort.  You and a parent or guardian must attend one of these meetings to qualify.  Please note that our travel dates do NOT conflict with OFSAA. 
Nov. 17 The Eagles hockey season kicks off at home tonight with the girls home opener.  If you’d like to earn volunteer hours & help out taking tickets at the door see Mr. Zilkalns in the Phys. Ed. office.
Nov. 17 Dryden Atom Tournament organizers are looking for student volunteers to keep time for their tournament which is taking place December 11th – 13th.  Sign up is here in the main office.  This is a good opportunity to earn some volunteer hours.

The Eagles Junior Boys Volleyball are the 2009 NorWOSSA Champions. The boys first eliminated the Beaver Brae Broncos 3 to 1 (25-19, 25-12, 12-25, 25-13). The boys then went on to eliminate the Fort Frances Muskies in 4 sets to capture the championship.

The Junior Girls Basketball team advanced to the final round of playoffs after defeating the Broncos 43 to 35, but fell to Fort Frances 35-24 in the championship game.

The Senior Girls Basketball season ended with a 30-28 loss against the Kenora Broncos.

The Senior Boys Volleyball team defeated Fort Frances in 4 sets (25-22, 25-12, 19-25, 25-16) to advance to the finals, where they fell to the Broncos in 3 sets.

Congratulations to all teams for their great seasons!
