Weekend Wrestling Report

This past weekend made for a great season kick-off for the DHS Wrestling Team.

All wrestlers hit the mats with focus and drive. With lots of new team members this year the mats were full of Dryden Eagles throughout the entire day long event. With this seasons large turn out we were able to have numerous competitors in various weight categories which in turn gave us the ability to come out with great results.

The team tally on the weekend was 5 gold medals, earned by Ben Arsenault, Jessyca Gauthier, Devon Lozej, Alex Evans and Jhan Cjakowski 3 silver earned by Nick Bergeron, Josh Shine, Andy Brown, and 3 bronze by Mell Hall, Heather Madussi and Shayna Desaulniers.

The teams first year wrestlers performed very well with many finishing just out of the medals.  All wrestlers put forth excellent effort and did exceptionally well. The first tournament always helps to understand where to improve for the rest of the season and that is exactly what the team got out of it. We are looking to improve for our up-coming tournament this Wednesday and have hit the mats hard already to get ourselves to where we want to be.

The Junior Boys basketball team travelled to Fort Frances to compete in tournament play. Over their four games the Juniors pulled out a win against St. Thomas Aquinas, pulling ahead in the fourth quarter for a 46-43 victory. Coach Paul Darling said that “It was a great start to the season and a great introduction to the high school game for all of our first year players.” and “Our second year players were thrust into leadership roles and I’m very impressed with the skill many of these players have coming in to grade 9.”

The Boys Hockey team was in Brandon for the 19th Annual Genesis Hospitality High School Hockey Tournament. The Boys won the “B” side final with a 2-0 win over Sturgeon Heights. Coach Oltsher said that it was a “very successful weekend with the team going 4-1 overall”. Oltsher also said that they were very happy with the effort all weekend, and the team learned a lot.

In Girls Hockey, the Eagles were down against the Fort Frances Muskies 1-0 early on, before coming back to defeat the Muskies 2-1 Saturday.

The Wrestling team traveled to Winnipeg where they were the overall medal leader on the weekend.

Great work teams! Dryden High School is proud of your accomplishments.

DHS in Dryden Santa Claus Parade

Dryden High School was well represented in Dryden’s Santa Claus parade this weekend. The DHS Student Float was full of enthusiastic volunteers driven by Mrs. Gardam. The DHS Ambassadors decorated and rode on the Domtar float this year. There were many other DHS students participating in the various community and business floats.

Way to kick off the holiday season in style, DHS!
