Parent Notice regarding Online Math Tutoring

The Keewatin-Patricia School board have once again partnered with the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) and e-Learning Ontario to deliver the Homework Help Program to students. This program offers free online tutors for grade 7-10 math students as well as access to the Ontario Educational Resource Bank (OERB) for K-12 teachers/students of all subject areas.

This year the ILC requires that the board must submit to them:
• Ontario Educational Number (OEN)
• Date of birth
• Grade
• Math course code (for secondary students)

If you have any questions regarding this issue please contact your school principal.

The ILC’s online math tutor for grades 7-10 is a FREE, anonymous, and safe. Students log onto homeworkhelp.ilc.org between 4:30 pm and 8:30 pm and using the board’s access code and students oen# register, creating a unique user name and password. The student will then pick a chat room and tutor and ask away. This program will begin September 26, 2010.

The second resource is something called the Ontario Educational Resource Bank (OERB) which is product of e-Learning Ontario. It currently offers a growing number of online resources to teachers and students, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, at no cost. There are thousands of teacher-shared resources, including lesson plans, activities, maps, and interactive multimedia objects, which are:

• offered in convenient formats including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, PDF, and Flash.
• aligned with the Ontario curriculum.
• searchable by grade, course/subject, strand, overall expectations, and keyword.
• easy to access and use.

To utilize the OERB you log onto resources.elearningontario.ca and enter the username: kpdsbstudent and the password which you can get from any of your teachers. Now you are free to search by general topic or by grade-subject-strand.
