Golf

Congratulations to the boys golf team on capturing the NorWOSSA Gold Medal in Fort  Frances yesterday.  Wade Wetelainen also won NorWOSSA gold as the overall champion after three events.  Brett Getson placed 4^th, Adam Getson 6^th and Josh Kitt finished in 9^th position.  The team now travels to Geraldton for the NWOSSA finals.

Football

In Football, the Eagles travelled to Winnipeg to play the Miles MacDonnell Buckeyes on Thursday Sept 23. The team showed improved will to compete resulting in a couple of big plays that unfortunately did not and up showing up on the scoreboard. Mac scored on its opening possession  and then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, scoring a field goal soon after. They added another TD before the end of the first quarter to lead 17-0. The Eagles defence then stiffened as Caine Benham managed to sack  the Buckeye QB and create a fumble the Eagles recovered. The offence was unable to sustain a drive. Held Mac to a single point in the 2^nd – 18-0 at the half.

Second half saw Mac add a TD in each quarter but the game was more even as Dryden finally managed to move the ball through the air after struggling on the ground all day. Highlights from the half were an Andrew Langlais interception, Ryan Martel completing 7 of 11 passes for 73 yards and Ben Arsenault scoring a rouge on a missed field goal to provide the first points of the season. Ryan Hansson led the team in receiving with 2 catches for 29 yards and also rushing with 3 carries for 17 yards. Mike Lampshire caused 2 fumbles from his linebacker position on defence.

The coaching staff was pleased with an improved willingness to battle from most of the team. The team is beginning to respond to a higher, more physical tempo in practices. They still aren’t aware of their potential and, as such, don’t consistently demonstrate full speed, aggressive play. Our next 2 opponents have also struggled this year and the hope is that we’ll achieve some success that will translate into confidence in their abilities and a win.

The Dryden Eagles split the day on the courts vs. Fort Frances in NorWOSSA league play today.

The Junior Boys started the day off on the volleyball court with a tough four set loss to the Muskies. After opening with a 25-19 win, the boys faltered and dropped the next three 15-25, 23-25 and 21-25.

The Junior Girls followed with a hard fought 20-16 win over the Muskies. Christina Medwid, Amy Doudiet, Liv Carter and Amy Knipping each scored 4 points for the Eagles.

The Senior Boys volleyball team went back and forth with Fort Frances, eventually winning in four sets 25-20, 18-25, 25-13, 25-21.

The Senior Girls closed out the day with a 33-19 loss vs Fort. The girls kept the score close through most of the game but faltered defensively in the last quarter, allowing Fort to pull ahead. Leading scorers were Morgan Church with 5 and Emile Gardam with 4.

The Eagles won’t see home court action now until October 13th, when they take on the Fort Frances Muskies.

A perfect day on the courts for the Dryden Eagles on Tuesday as all four teams took on the Beaver Brae Broncos in league play.

The seniors started the day off with the girls basketball squad toppling the Broncs 47-12. Wilma Oombash and Candace Taylor lead the Eagles with 10 each, and Andy Louttit and Emile Gardam each added 6.

In senior volleyball, Beaver Brae wasn’t going home without a fight, but the Eagles fought to a straight sets win 25-15, 25-23 and 25-22.

The junior teams closed out the day with girls basketball winning 31-19. Ashley Kropelin led scoring with 6 points and Amy Doudiet added 5.

The junior volleyball squad took four games to down the Broncos, 25-19, 13-25, 25-14 and 25-20.

Great work teams! Next home action is Thursday when the Eagles take on the Fort Frances Muskies. Come out and cheer on the blue and gold!
