Morning Announcements – Feb. 16, 2012

Feb. 16 February 12th to 18th is Sexual Health and Reproductive Awareness Week.  Did you know that you can have an STI and not even know it?  Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are the two most common STIs and they’re so easy to test for.  Ever wondered “Positive?  Me?”  Well, find out, get tested!  Today’s locker swag is provided by the Northwestern Health Unit Sexual Health Program to remind you to take care of your sexual and reproductive health.  For more information, contact the local Northwestern Health Unit.
Feb. 16 Congratulations to all the girls volleyball, boys basketball, cheerleaders & spectators for the very long & exciting day spent in Fort Frances for the court sport playoffs yesterday.  Good luck to our Sr. Girls Volleyball team – who won gold yesterday & will travel to Thunder Bay next weekend for NWOSSAA Championships.
Feb. 16 Badminton Team tryouts start today @ 3:30.  If you cannot make that time, you must see Mrs. Tremonti before 3:30 today.
Feb. 16 Calling all aboriginal students 13 -16 years old.  Join in on the fun at the Mini Winter Olympics and Youth Games.  Jordan Gardner for “Right to Play” is looking for 8 more students to participate in activities like snow sculpting, Eskimo kick, tubing & tobogganing.  There is no cost for this 3 day, 2 night winter camp.  For more information pick up the registration forms in the main office.
Feb. 16 The Dryden Ringette Association is looking for volunteer time keepers for their tournament on Sat. Feb. 18 & Sun. Feb. 19th.  Please sign the list in the main office by next Wednesday.
Feb. 16 The Dryden Rotary Club is once again sponsoring Adventures in Technology, which is a 6 day event running from Sunday April 29th to Saturday May 4th, 2012.  One DHS student will be chosen to join students from across Western Canada for an intense exploration of advanced technology, research development and applications.  This is a highly academic program having students visit some of Canada’s finest corporations and research facilities.  If you would like to be considered for this program or wish to nominate another student, please forward the name to Guidance.  Deadline for applications is Wed., March 14th.  For more information, contact Guidance.
Feb. 16 To all Grade 11 and 12 students … if you are interested in a career in the health care field, there is a presentation on Thursday, February 23rd.  Doctors, Lab Technicians and an Occupational Therapist will be speaking.  Please sign up in the main office.
