Morning Announcements – Oct. 20, 2011

Oct. 20 Congratulations to the entire Eagles cross Country team who travelled to Thunder Bay to take on the best in the region.  Your midget girls Andie Wood, Elizabeth Carter, Emmy Arsenault and Emily Day topped the field and took home gold.  Your midget boys Tyler Leonzio, Eldon Vandenbrand, Jake Wickstrom and Austin Madussi narrowly missed to take the silver.  Your senior girls Emily Plett, Sarah Smith, Nicole Allam and Dominique Gardner rounded out the triple with a bronze.  Ten of twenty five have earned a spot to travel to Ottawa to take on the province at OFSAA on November 5.  Amazing results from Incredible Efforts! 
Oct. 20 Caine Benham, Patrick Wall & Rainier Penner led a great defensive effort yesterday against S. Norbert in the football regular season final.  Defense allowed only a field goal but the offence struggled all day in the 12 – 0 loss to the Celtics.  The team looks to rebound next week in the playoffs. 
Oct. 20 Yearbooks will be distributed during period four Thursday.  Students will be called down to the student square by grade to pick up their books.  Students with Block A spares should pick up their books during period 4.
Oct. 20 Attention Dramatic People!  Improv is cancelled for today.  If you want information about the upcoming auditions for High School Musical, there is a “Get Comfortable” session today from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m.  We are ending at 4:00, so don’t be late!
Oct. 19 – 28 Someone from Safe Grad will be in the student square on October 28 at 12:00 noon to collect sold Safe Grad Ticket stubs & money and also to distribute Safe Grad tickets to those students who have not received them yet.
Oct. 20 The grade 10 outdoor ed class will be hosting a rock climbing wall again today at Dryden High.  Over the lunch hour, the wall will be open for any student to try out, or participate in the timed competition.  The cost will be a toonie for each attempt, with part of the money raised going to an environmental charity.  Challenge your friends and support your outdoor ed program this Wed. & Thurs. at lunch.  Remember to grab those toonies lying around for your chance to be the fastest up the wall!
Oct. 20 Hey grade 9 – 12 girls!  Have you ever thought about a career in the skilled trades and technologies?  Would you like to meet inspiring women from your community who have found exciting and rewarding careers in a field they love?  On Thursday, October 27th, Skills Canada-Ontario is hosting a “Skills Work! For Women” Networking Dinner at La Place Rendezvous in Fort Frances.  For more information or to register for this event see Mrs. Pateman in Guidance.

Oct. 20 Any graduates interested in purchasing a grad ring are asked to pick up a brochure and sign up for a ring fitting here in the office.  A sales rep from Jostens will be here on Tuesday & Wednesday, October 25 & 26 for the ring fittings.  A deposit of $60.00 is required when you place your order.
Oct. 20 Canadian Blood Services is asking for 35 students and staff to help hospital patients by donating blood at DHS on Monday, October 31st from 4:00 – 8:00 and Tuesday, Nov. 1st from 12:00 – 3:00 and 5:00 – 8:00p.m.  There are 35 appointment spots to fill between 12:25 and 1:45 on Nov. 1st.  Those wishing to donate at other times or for other information can call 1-888-2-DONATE(1-888-236-6283).  Thank you for helping hospital patients in need.  Sign-up is here in the main office.

Oct. 20 Looking for community hours?  Dryden’s Gay Pride Committee is looking for volunteers to help sell ribbons around town to help the cause.  They are also looking for volunteers to help set up for Dryden’s Gay Pride Halloween Dance.  If you are interested, please sign up in the main office.  The Dryden Gay Pride Committee thanks you for your help and support.
