Eagles Football October 7th

The Dryden Eagles celebrated Homecoming with a convincing 41-9 victory over the visiting Tec Voc Hornets on Oct 7th. The team drew inspiration from a spirited pep rally and parade where all Eagle teams proudly showed their Eagle pride.

The team fell behind 1-0 early in the 1st quarter on a single scored by the Hornet punter, but rallied to drive the ball down the field with a number of hard runs. The offensive line stepped up in a big way and opened holes for all Eagle runners. Ryan Martel opened the scoring for Dryden when he scampered in from 4 yards out and Ben Arsenault converted the TD for a 7-1 Dryden lead. In the second quarter Dryden extended its advantage when Tanner Russell caught a 35 yard pass and took the ball to the Tec Voc 1. Jeremy Euler scored from there to push the score to 14-1 at the half.

In the 2nd half, Dryden again used a balanced attack to grow the lead as Adam Saunders caught a 12 yard TD pass and Ryan Martel ran in a 52 yarder, Shane Kirton a 20 yarder and Josh Oberg a late score from 12 yards. Tec Voc could only manage a late TD pass to temporarily take some momentum.

“The team ran hard all week and decided to be the aggressor, our conditioning paid dividends as we were able to pull away while playing our back-ups.” said Coach Zilkalns

The Eagles had a season high 536 total yards of offence, with the top 2 quarterbacks both passing for over 70 yards. 2 runners had over 100 yards each on the ground. 6 different Eagles scored on the day. Top receiver for the day was Jeremy Euler with 3 catches for 63 yards.

It was a great day on defence for Drew Walske with 5 tackles and an interception. Calum Cheesequay-Thom and Tanner Russell also added an interception each. Patrick Wall recovered a fumble and Ray Durand got a sack.

Next up is the Fort Frances Muskies at 7pm under the lights…Dryden’s first night football game. We are hoping for a great turnout from the community.
