Eagles Football results from Winnipeg

The Dryden Eagles defence played their best game of the season by far on Wednesday Oct 19th against St. Norbert. Led by Caine Benham’s 11 tackles and strong efforts from Patrick Wall and Rainier Penner out of their linebacker spots, the D allowed only a field goal in the 2nd quarter to the host Celtics.

On a bright, sunny day at Eastside field both teams posted zeros on the scoreboard after 12 minutes of play.  St. Norbert opened the scoring midway through the second frame when they returned an interception 17 yards for a major. The field goal made it 10-0 at the half.

After the break Dryden attempted an onside kick that St. Norbert recovered but was not able to convert into points. In the 4th quarter the hosts drove the ball to a first and goal from the 4 yard line but on three consecutive runs , the Eagles defenders refused to break. There would be no scoring until 2 minutes remained in the game, QB Brayden Hansson being tackle in the Dryden end zone for a safety. The final score was 12-0.

With little on the line in terms of playoff seeding, Dryden saw some players expand their game experience and try new options. Dryden next faces a Daniel Mac Maroons squad that left McMaster field with a 27-14 win earlier in the campaign. The coaching staff is optimistic that a week of study, work and belief on the part of the players can lead to the upset.
