Eagles Boys head to hockey finals

The Boys Eagles Hockey team advanced to the NorWOSSA Boys Hockey Finals on the strength of 2 wins over the Kenora Broncos in the league semi-finals this weekend.  Friday night the Eagles rebounded from a first period 2-0 deficit to win by a 6-2 margin.  Goals scorers were Josh Reid  and Ryan Lobreau with two each while Grant Valiquette and Matt Bartlett added singles.  Zach Lake made 25 saves for the win.

The Eagles also picked up the victory on Sunday at home, winning by a very close 2-1 margin.  Blair Dingwall and Jared Stratford picked up the goals for the victory while Zach Lake made some outstanding saves late in the game to secure the win and sweep the Broncos in 2 straight games.  The Eagles will face the winner of Fort Frances and Red Lake in the other semi final series.  Finals start this weekend.

Coach Oltsher said of the series “It was good to see the team come together to shake that monkey off their back. Kenora has had our number this year and I was glad to see the guys win 2 straight to advance to the finals. It has been a tough week as we’ve had to battle through a few injuries and the flu, but it’s the playoffs and everyone has stepped up their effort. Now we have to carry that desire and success into the finals so we can continue on to the OFSAA Championships in St Catharines after the March Break”
