The Eagles Nordic Ski Team hosted NWOSSAA competitions yesterday at the Dryden Ski Club, with 59 skiers competing from across the region.  The warm weather was a welcome break and DHS athletes produced some excellent results.  In the Sr Boys Category, which has been very competitive all season, Nic Peters finished just 2 seconds out of the medals in 4th place with Sigvart Stoverud placing 5th over the 7.5 km course.   For Sr Girls racing, Sarah Urquhart skied a strong 5.5 km race to take the silver medal in just under 31 minutes.  Junior boy’s Liam Jones skied a fast time of just over 23 minutes, claiming the gold medal, with Callum Kriese placing 4th. Qualifying skiers will be competing next at OFSAA in Collingwood at the end of February.  Well done, Eagles skiers!  Coach Schmidt would like to congratulate you on all your hard work and training this season.
Boys hockey acquitted themselves well but fell by one goal in Kenora to the Broncos.  Scoring was Tanner Henderson, Jacob Lugli & Karson Bibeau.  The season ends Thursday in Fort Frances. Girls hockey dropped a 5 – 2 decision to the T.A. Saints last night.  The team can still clinch 1st place if they beat Sioux North tomorrow.  The Eagles will open their playoffs at home Tuesday night against either Fort Frances or Beaver Brae.
An exciting 5 set victory yesterday by the Sr Girls volleyball team over the top ranked Muskies.  The Jr Boys basketball also emerged victorious, nipping Fort Frances 48 – 44.  Senior Boys played a solid game before dropping an 8 point decision.  All 4 teams will go for gold Friday in Kenora at the NorWOSSA playoffs.
