DHS welcomed Olympic gold medalist & World champion ice hockey player Katie Weatherston on Tuesday afternoon.

Katie was here to speak to students about the importance of goal setting and overcoming adversity. She talked about her mental approach to life and sport, and explained the impact that goal setting has had on her throughout her career.

Katie had some advice for students in their goal setting. “Keep a list of your goals in a place that you can see them every day.” said Weatherston.  Smart goals equal success, Weatherston said, and used the acronym SMART: Specific (are the details of your goals clear); Measurable (can you measure your progress); Attainable (is the goal within your capability); Realistic (do you have the time and desire to achieve the goal); and Timely (do you have a start and end date).

The grade 10 and 11 students enjoyed her presentation and had the chance to meet with Katie and check out her gold medals at the end of her talk.
