The first DHS hockey team was started in 1945 by Gordon Wood. The team competed in the local town hockey league. The team only played for one year, as there was already a well established league for teenage boys. (More information at bottom of page)

It is assumed that this was the first school team to wear the colours of blue with gold stripes. Before the team was formed the school colours were blue, grey and maroon. When Mr. Wood contacted a company in Winnipeg that made hockey sweaters, he was told that the only colours available at the time were blue and gold. This is how the school colours came to be blue and gold.

The team was known as "The Rockets". The Eagles was not used as a team name until 1950.

This picture was provided by Fergus Brown. Fergus Brown and Don Nicholson identified the names of the team members.
