In 1945 the school colours were blue, grey and maroon. Gordon Wood wanted to organize a school hockey team to compete in the local league. He contacted a company in Winnipeg to enquire about purchasing hockey sweatshirts. He was told that the only team shirts that were available were blue and gold. After holding a school meeting it was decided to purchase these sweaters and to go with those team colours.

During the 1940s, the girls had to wear a school uniform of a white blouse, a brown dress and brown shorts. This uniform was not very popular with the girls. A blue sweater with three gold rings around the right arm was popular, but it was not part of the school uniform. Fridays were called “dress up” (that is not an error) days and the girls were not obliged to wear the school uniform. During the 1947-1948 school year the girls petitioned student council for action to change the school uniform.

During the commencement (graduation) exercises held on November 28 and 29 1947, the back of the stage was adorned with alternate strips of blue and gold crepe.

The 1947-1948 school year saw the introduction of the points system where participation in various school activities resulted in the awarding of points. Twenty-five points resulted in the award of a blue “D” and 50 points earned a gold “D” with a gold pin.
