Harry McMaster was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA in 1944 and then from the Faculty of Education in 1945. Mr. McMaster received a telegraph (then commonly called a wire) from George Wice in Dryden. Mr. McMaster was offered to teach Grade 13 physics. Mr. McMaster declined, but did accept a position teaching Mathematics, Chemistry and Grade 10 Science.

Mr. McMaster arrived to Dryden in the fall of 1945, and continued his career with the Dryden secondary school system until his retirement in 1980. He was promoted to assistant principal in 1962, and continued in this position until his retirement.

Mr. McMaster's contributions to secondary education, especially his contributions to physical education and coaching are beyond measure. It is Harry McMaster who named the Dryden sports teams the "Eagles".

The 1948 year book adds that Mr. McMaster's pet peeve was giving yearbook interviews!
