The first student council

The first student council organization was formed on April 1947, with Martin Euler elected as student council president. The 1947-48 yearbook states that the goal of student council was to have one efficient organziation to coordinate all student activities.

The first event organized by then student council president Martin Euler was a student-alumni dance, one of the very few dances held that year. Before the end of the year, plans were made for a constitution and a point system for the awarding of school letters for participation in school activities.

In the fall of 1947, after Martin Euler had graduated, vice-president Doris Charter became president and other vacancies were filled by popular vote. Student council members were:

The 1947-1948 school year was a very productive one for the first student council. Some of the activities organized by the council were:

  1. Freshman initiation
  2. A Student Constitution was drawn up and ratified by school vote
  3. Assisted the teachers in the orgainzation of the Commencement program and the formal dance
  4. Plans for a yearbook were envisoned by Jim White Jr. and brought to completion by Roy Wilson.
  5. The first volleyball tournament between Dryden and Kenora was organized. Twenty-five girls along with cheerleaders traveled to compete in Kenora.
  6. New school uniforms for the girls were designed and accepted by the girls
  7. A standard school sweater was ordered along with school crests.
  8. Student council members ushered parents on Parents' day and served them tea
  9. The Student Council Welfare Committee under Dorthy Marks, directed the town's annual Children's Aid tag day
