To the Reader?.

When you read this booklet, picture yourself standing in front of the Bank of Montreal, looking across the intersection at the big, old, brick building that has Lana's shoes. This building was the Royal Bank in Dryden for many years.

This Remembrance Day story is about a Dryden boy who lived on the second floor of that building with his mom, his dad and his sister. His dad was manager of the Royal Bank, and there was a suite or apartment above the bank for the manager's family.

Russell McIntyre moved to Dryden when he was 8 years old. During his elementary school years, up to grade 8, he would have walked over Dryden streets that you know to Albert Street School. Back in those years, Dryden High School was the yellow brick building that is now the city's municipal offices, behind the cenotaph between the Dryden Library and the Fire Hall. As a high school student, Russell would have walked up Main Street, past the fire hall to go to school.

This booklet is about Pilot-Officer Russell McIntyre, of the Royal Canadian Air Force, who lost his life in an airplane crash in England on Dec. 13, 1943.
