SERVICE HELD FOR RUSSELL McINTYRE

A shadow of great sorrow was cast over the holiday season in this community by the news of the death of Pilot-Officer Russell McIntyre. Mr. & Mrs. McIntyre received word of their only son's passing on December 15 in an official message which reported that Russell had been killed on active service in England on December 13th.

Born in Virden, Manitoba in April 1923, Alexander Russell McIntyre came to Dryden in 1931 when the family moved here as Mr. McIntyre was transferred to this point as manager of the Royal Bank.

Russell attended Dryden public and high schools and just prior to joining the air force had graduated from grade 13 at Dryden High School where he was an outstanding student. He took part in the activities of the student body and was active in the organization of the ski club as well as the camera club of which he was president.

Enlisting in June 1942, Russell trained in Edmonton, Mossbank and Winnipeg receiving his wings in June 1943 at Winnipeg where he was first in the Air bomber's Class and was awarded the gold identification disc. He received his commission as a pilot officer on graduation in June 1943 and proceeded overseas the following month. At the time of his death, Pilot-Officer McIntyre was in England where he was completing a six month instructional course.

Besides his parents, Russell is survived by one sister, Catherine, at home.

Last Friday a further message from RCAF headquarters informed the family of funeral arrangements and the writer feels that the bereaved ones should find some small solace in the knowledge that their loved one is buried in Somerset, England.

The funeral was held on the afternoon of December 17 and burial took place in Regional Cemetary, Haycome Bath, Somerset.

The people of the entire district offer their heartfelt sympathy to the family in their very great loss.
