Morning Announcements – March 30, 2011

Mar. 30 All students who are writing the official OSSLT on Thursday, March 31, will have their name entered into a draw for a chance to win one of three IPODs.  You must be in attendance in order to receive a prize.  Good Luck!
Mar. 30 There is a SAVE meeting tonight in the library at 3:10.  New members are welcome!  Come out and help plan Pink Day!  Great way to get volunteer hours.
Mar. 30 If you require a graduation photo retake or did not have your grad photo done yet, retakes will be on April 6th and 7th.  Sign up sheets are here in the main office.
Mar. 30 Science tutoring from a university graduate is available from 3:15 until 4:00 in the library. 
Mar. 30 Grade 12 graduating students…graduation is less than 3 months away.  Orders for your cap and gown can be  placed here in the office.  $25.00 will reserve a cap and gown…a requirement for walking across the stage.  If you are choosing not to attend the graduation ceremonies, a form must be filled out indicating a cap and gown will not be required.

Mar. 30 The Ontario Provincial Police, Dryden detachment, is looking for a summer marine student.  The candidate must be 18 years of age, possess a Pleasure Craft Operators Card, Minimum Ontario G2 Driver’s License, CPR &  First Aid Qualifications.  Come to the office for more information.

James Bartleman Aboriginal Youth Creative Writing Award

The James Bartleman Aboriginal Youth Creative Writing Award is seeking submissions for the annual contest.

Each year the award program recognizes up to 6 Aboriginal youth for their creative writing talent. Creative pieces may include, but are not limited to, short stories, poems, essays, plays or songs.  Recipients will receive a cash award of $2500 each.

Program information and submission forms are available at www.ontario.ca/bartleman. The deadline for submissions is May 31st, 2011.

Mar. 28 WOW…WHAT A TIME!  Congrats to the members of the Fine Arts Council who made it through their first 24 hour pledge drive this weekend!  From gum art to air bands to Saskatchewan Jeopardy, you guys rocked it FAC style.
Mar. 28 Girls soccer tryouts start today at 5:00 in the small gym.
Mar. 28 There is no junior badminton practice today.  The next practice is tomorrow at 3:30.

Mar. 25 Girls soccer tryouts will begin next week at 5:00 in the small gym.  If you want more info, find Ms. Kunza or look at the schedule posted on the door of room 111.
Mar. 23-25 Any wrestlers or athletes who have a locker in the downstairs team room are to clean it out by today as lockers will be reassigned next week.
Mar. 24,25 The Dryden Skating Club Ice Show is tonight  from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Dryden Memorial Arena.  One of the line numbers will feature some of Dryden’s hockey players and figure skaters.  Come out and enjoy the show.
Mar. 25 Science tutoring from a university graduate is available from 3:15 until 4:00 in the library.
Mar. 25 Today is your last chance to place your order for daffodils.  Come to the office to place your order.  The daffodils sell for $7.00 per bunch, or 2 bunches for $12.00 (10 blooms per bunch).  The order goes in today & the daffodils will be delivered on Tuesday the 29th.

Mar. 24 For anyone who missed last night’s broadcast of local hero entrepreneurs Margot Woodworth, Lisa Schmidt, and Merrill Kluke on Dragon’s Den,  there will be a re-broadcast at 11:30 a.m. in room 118.

March 31st OSSLT (Literacy Test) Schedule for all DHS Students

Thursday, March 31st is the literacy test day.  It is very important that all grade 10 and previously eligible students are present at school to write the OSSLTGrade 9 students must also be at school as they will be participating in a diagnostic literacy practice test.  All DHS staff will be helping to administer these tests.  Grade 11 and 12 students who are not required to write the OSSLT are expected to use the time to complete any unfinished tasks at the direction of their classroom teachers.  Most classrooms will be used on March 31st .  Any grade 11 and 12 students choosing to come to school will have use of the library or cafeteria.  During test time movement throughout the school will be very limited.

Mar. 23 All Civics classes (Ms. Rose’s, Mr. Chasowy’s Mr. Lalonde’s & Mr. Oltsher’s) will be at lunch in the library today.

Senior Girls Volleyballers bow out in Consolation Semis

The Dryden Eagles volleyball team have finished up their tournament with a loss in the consolation semifinals. St. Stephen CSS defeated the girls in straight sets (21-25, 22-25)

Game 4: Eagles drop match to ESP Gisele Lalonde (15-25, 16-25)
Game 3: The Eagles defeat St. Thomas Aquinas in two sets. (25-18, 25-20)
Game 2: The Eagles have found their stride, wining in two sets vs. Timmins. (25-21, 25-10)
Game 1: Eagles drop match 1 to Richview Collegiate (21-25, 25-19, 7-15)

The DHS Senior girls volleyball team are in Ottawa this week competing in the OFSAA provincial championship.

Attention Youth Soccer Players

Dryden Youth Soccer has changed its age limit. Any female or male 18 and under can now register. Pick up a registration form at the main office. You can also print the form from www.drydenyouthsoccer.com (note: late fees on form do not apply)

It is important you complete the registration form and hand it in ASAP so that teams can be finalized. Deadline is March 25th.

Drop the forms off at Carlos’s house or have them placed in Mr. Leclerc’s mailbox here at the school.

Eagles Girls bow out in finals

The Eagles Girls hockey team played hard but in the end it wasn't enough to beat a strong Beaver Brae team.

The final score of 4-2 for the Broncos sends them to the OFSAA championships.

Dryden goal scorers were Ashley Kropelin and Martina Wintle.

Eagles girls fall in game 1

A familiar feeling for the Girls Eagles as they trail in the NorWOSSA finals after dropping 2-0 to Beaver Brae Friday.

A must-win game two will happen on Sunday at 4:30 in Dryden.
