Eagles Hockey vs. Beaver Brae, Feb. 17 2011

The DHS Eagles came out ahead with a score of 6-4 against the Beaver Brae Broncos tonight.

This scrappy tilt saw the Eagles trailing by two going into the second period, but the game quickly turned as a pair of goals from Jared Stratford (first assisted by Dingwall and McConnachie and second by Dingwall and Kaus) followed by Cody Kaus (assisted by Stratford) made it a 3-2 hockey game. The Brocos managed to tie things up near the end of the second making it a 3-3 hockey game.

The Eagles kept up the pressure in the third with Zack Pitchenese walking in unassisted to open things up. Jared Stratford followed up with his own unassisted goal and Blair Dingwall sealed the deal with an empty netter assisted by Stratford and Nelson.

Great game, Eagles!

Sean Aiken and the “Discover Your Passion” tour

Sean Aiken of "The One-Week Job Project" challenged DHS students to discover their passion.

Grade 11 and 12 DHS students were treated to a presentation today by Sean Aiken as part of his "Discover Your Passion" tour.

In 2007 Sean created the One-Week Job Project, which saw him work 52 jobs in 52 weeks in an effort to find his passion. After completing his job and raising $20,000 for charity, Sean decided that he needed to share his story and the lessons he learned along the way.

Sean's presentation included a screening of the documentary that his friend Ian MacKenzie produced as he travelled with Sean on his yearlong journey.  Sean spoke with students about the importance of not being afraid to try different things and following your passion.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Sean!

For more information visit http://www.oneweekjob.com/ or on check out the One Week Job Project on Facebook.

Girls Hockey Results

The DHS Eagles Girls Hockey team defeated the Beaver Brae Broncos 3-2 in an overtime shootout game tonight.

Olivia Carter started things off with an unassisted goal in the first. Alex Wesley made it a 2-1 hockey game in the second assisted by Bartlett.

The Broncos managed to tie it up sending the game to a five minute sudden death overtime. The girls were unable to capitalize on a four on three powerplay starting the OT period, and the clock ran out with the score still tied.

The shootout saw Morgan Church, Alexis Reid and Martina Wintle all find the net for the Eagles, which was enough to best the Broncos and send the girls home with the win.

Great game, Eagles!

Next Girls Hockey action is a week from tonight as the team travels to Fort Frances to take on the Muskies.
